Nakhon Pathom Temple houses Phra Pathom Chedi, the largest pagoda in Thailand. This chedi is also the official symbol of Nakhon Pathom province.
Phra Pathom Chedi is one of the oldest Buddhist monuments in Thailand, pre-dating the actual arrival of the Thai people. It was built by the Dvaravati culture, most likely Mon-Khmer speakers who already followed Buddhist beliefs.
The current chedi is the result of a restoration by King Rama V in the 19th century.
