The Buddhist temple ruins of Sukhothai belong with the most impressive cultural heritage of the Thai people. The city was the first Thai capital and is located 300 kilometers south of Chiang Mai and 400 kilometers north of Bangkok.
The former greatness of Sukhothai has been preserved in the Sukhothai Historical Park. Ruins of the royal palaces, temples and rests of the city itself like the moat are preserved and partially restored here.
