Du Plessis vs. Adesanya took place Aug. 17 at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia. Dricus du Plesiss (22-2) and Israel Adesanya (24-4) squared off in the the main event clash. The fight aired live on pay-per-view on ESPN+.

Round 1

Marc Goddard gets us going and Adesanya comes out to the center and immediately switches stances. He’s in the center early while DDP moves around the outside and tests the waters with some low kicks.

Adesanya probes with his lead hand as DDP keeps kicking the legs. Both men being very tentative to start. DDP bulls in and Adesanya steps out then kicks. DDP with a left over the top that Adesanya steps out off.

Adesanya with a ton of feints. He’s still holding that center and DDP charges in with a rush but Adesanya fades back and then Adesanya lands a nice body kick. Then a jab when DDP throws a kick that off balances him.

DDP still throwing calf kicks at range. Adesanya lands one of his own. Adesanya moving very well in there to not let DDP get going. Good body kick from DDP lands.

DDP now holding the center and Adesanya really putting his lead hand in the way. DDP charges in and misses then into a clinch but Adesanya breaks it and takes the center.

DDP is bleeding slightly from the forehead and he’s moving forward more. Adesanya lands a nice body kick. DDP comes in and lands a good left hand as Adesanya moves out. DDP landing when he throws in combination. Adesanya lands a left hook at the end of a three piece. DDP lands another leg kick.

DDP comes in and lands a good right hand as Adesanya moves away. Then a leg kick. DDP having success with his blitzes. Very nice uppercut snaps in from Adesanya and DDP has to retreat. Good left from Adesanya. DDP keeps kicking to the head and Adesanya barely blocks. Then lands a body shot.

DDP lands a leg kick then a left hand off another charge.

Round 2

Good, competitive opening round and we’re right back to it.

Adesanya moves to the center at first but DDP wants to take it from him. Both men switching stances now and Adesanya lands a body kick.

DDP trying to push Adesanya back but he doesn’t want to allow it. And DDP has a great level change when Adesanya steps in, slam finish on the double. Adesanya has an overhook and stands but DDP sticks with him and takes Adesanya right back down.

OH! Adesanya gave up his back and DDP is on it! Trying to dig the choke in! Adesanya defends and DDP pounds some big shots. DDP goes for the choke again and he has Adesanya flattened out!!!

But Adesanya turns and he’s out! I don’t even know how he did it but he’s up! And DDP looks funny here. Adesanya is stalking him now. Low blow from Adesanya but DDP waves it off. Wild swings and then DDP gets a takedown!

Wow. Adesanya flagrantly grabbing the fence and Goddard doing nothing about it. DDP staying on him as Adesanya tries to stand. DDP still here and puts shots in. Adesanya grabs the fence and stands. There are not rules in MMA.

DDP hanging on the back here and gets a trip down but Adesanya stands back up. DDP still riding that back and putting in small shots. Adesanya stands again. DDP with a leg weave. Another fence grab and DDP puts some big left hands into Adesanya!

Adesanya grabs the glove. Cheating outrageously in there and Goddard isn’t saying a thing. Adesanya turns in and has an overhook. Tries a trip and we stay in this stall as the round ends.

Round 3

Adesanya right back to the jab and shots down the middle. DDP jumps but bails. Good body kick from Adesanya. He’s feinting a lot and trying to push DDP back now.

Adesanya lands a good jab. DDP getting stuck at range and takes an awkward run. Good right hand from DDP over the top though. Adesanya starting to settle in and work the body more as DDP covers up.

Leg kick from Adesanya and DDP charges in with nothing. Adesanya rips a hook to the body. It’s money and DDP’s hands start dropping. He doesn’t care for those. But DDP lands another right. Man is a dog for sure.

Adesanya getting the jab going real well now and then lands a spinning elbow. Adesanya flowing but DDP staying in his grill and lands a good right hand. Then goes up top with a kick that Adesanya blocks.

DDP charge comes in and lands 2 after five. DDP on a single but Adesanya defends. Jab uppercut from Adesanya lands. This is turning into a slug fest and Adesanya drops! DDP lands a left hand but actually looks like a trip.

Adesanya tries to sit down and counter. He’s looking cautious and DDP is dirtying this up. Big shot from Adesanya but DDP returns fire. They are standing in the middle and slinging them now.

Adesanya rips big combos to the body and DDP comes back up top. DDP launches in again and he’s making that work somehow.

Round 4

Right back into the mix.

Adesanya jabbing, DDP covering up and then running in. Adesanya combos and DDP shoots but great sprawl from Adesanya. He lets him up and then DDP lands a left hand. The body work might be taking a toll on the champ.

Bit he lands a right hand as Adesanya swings. Adesanya sticks a jab and he looks fresh. Body kick. Nice combo. DDP swing and a miss.

Good left from Adesanya but right returned from DDP. DDP keeps mucking things up but Adesanya sticking him at range. Adesanya really like the uppercut but misses that one. Good body kick from DDP.

DDP starting to come forward and get Adesanya backing up but Izzy lands a sharp right hand counter. DDP charges in and Adesanya to the body. DDP is a house man, he keeps walking through big shots and a left hand gets Adesanya’s attention!

DDP pressing and Adesanya backs out. Then DDP lands another left hand. And aright hand drops Adesanya!!! He was running away and DDP clipped him!!!!

Adesanya is up but he’s hurt and running away and DDP is all over him!!! Another right hook drops Adesanya and DDP pounces! Right to the back!!! DDP goes for the choke!!! It’s in!!! Adesanya taps!!!!!!!

OUT OF NOWHERE THE CHAMP IS THE CHAMP STILL
