It is a well known fact that the North Eastern region, being predominantly engaged in subsistence farming i.e. growing sufficient rice for the family and hopefully for additional purchases, has long been regarded as one of the poorer regions in Thailand. This in turn has resulted in a large proportion of females from the poorer families seeking employment in the major tourist venues in Thailand to improve their families income. Udon Thani Visa Runs through Nong Khai
Udon Thani is close to the border town of Nong Khai. A large number of resident expatriates use the immigration facilities at Nong Khai for annual visa renewals and travel across the Friendship Bridge into Laos for the shorter term visa renewals.
