Sukhothai Nightlife Travel Guide
Jump to: Nightlife Galleries
If you are looking for a pop-pulsing, show-stopping, no holds barred night out in Thailand, we hate to say it, but you won't find it in Sukhothai! There's certainly fun times to be had, but on a much more modest scale than in other resort locations such as Bangkok or Phuket. Instead, kick back and go with the flow, and you'll have just as much fun with less of a hangover - possibly. [more]
Clubs in Sukhothai
Mega clubs in Sukhothai, no, open air disco aerobics, yes! If you just can't stop those dancin' feet, or just want to burn off some beer-fuelled calories, join the crowds at the park beside Wat Rachathani. Every night from 6.30pm, for a heart-pounding hour, instructors put the assembled group through their paces. Feel the burn.
Bars in Sukhothai
Most upmarket Sukhothai hotels have a bar that'll serve you a wide variety of drinks, but serious drinking at hotel bars can leave a serious dent in your wallet. If you want a good night out and are content with local beer rather than wines or imported spirits, head for new Sukhothai instead.
Walk along Thanon Pravetnakorn, and you'll probably hear live music and the sound of laughter spilling out from the popular Chopper Bar. It's a magnet for locals and laid-back travellers from the nearby guesthouses, who down beers and swap tales until past midnight. You can eat from their Thai or Western menu at the rooftop restaurant, or listen to live music. The band sometimes offers you the chance to join in on stage, which is one up from karaoke - just...
Lovers of kitch will adore the Kitty House, named after the Japanese cartoon character whose cute and cuddly image adorns walls, tables, you name it. However, the locals flock here to watch football on the big screen (see more in our Sports section on the Thai love of the beautiful game).
Some of the popular restaurants in new Sukhothai are also great bars as well, such as the Poo Restaurant on Thanon Jarot Withithong, which stays open until midnight. The Khun Tanode restaurant down the road beside the bridge also stays open late, for a drink beside the river.
For a touch of style, head out of town towards the Historic Park and enjoy a drink at the Tharaburi Resort Hotel.
You are unlikely to encounter any problems late at night in new Sukhothai, but women travellers and those more than a little worse for wear should avoid tuk-tuk rides and opt for taxis instead. If in doubt, stagger to the nearest Sukhothai hotel or guest house and ask them to order you a taxi, just to be on the safe side.
